Simply because they are the best sushi in Lausanne and that the deli is packed full of original Japanese products, among which delicious gyozas and mixes for Okonomyaki that are easy to make at home.

The Great Escape: Tipps der Sébastien

It’s probably one of Lausanne’s unmissable places, but it’s also my hangout in the evenings when I join friends for a beer. It’s the very relaxed, even festive atmosphere that immediately appealed to me, as well as the industrial setting. They have excellent IPAs that are the reward I need after a long day’s work.

The peerless local small café; Steve and Davide have succeeded in creating a real community. When I want a quiet spot to chat with a girlfriend, we sit on the bench in that charming café with a “dirty oat chai”. There’s nothing more comforting.

In the evening, in the morning, even on Sunday – in fact anytime – Tibits is open and offers a buffet with delicious vegetarian dishes. I love going there in the middle of the afternoon, when it’s quiet, so I can sit peacefully with a copious plate of veg and a ginger and lemon punch.

Hungry as a wolf? I suggest you try this crazy brunch! On the menu: English breakfast, avocado toast or burgers, all that served with a plate of pancakes. As an included extra treat: homemade ice tea! Book ahead as it’s very popular!

Once you've discovered its secret doors, you can take a seat on one of the comfy sofas and sip a delicious little cocktail. However, making your choice is difficult – each new drink is more original than the last. In summer you can even sit on a terrace with a view of the cathedral while reading one of the books plucked from the shelves lining the bar.

Poke bowls have finally arrived in Switzerland - straight from Hawaii. SPOT has adopted the idea and added local seasonal produce. The perfect meal to enjoy on the shores of the lake: a real treat and healthy all at the same time! And their cookies are to die for!

Very often filled to capacity in the evening, I had never dared to visit this restaurant until recently. But once I finally took the plunge, this eatery shot to the top of my list of favourites. Finally, we have some sophisticated South American cuisine and finally something other than burgers in Lausanne! You've got the idea: Make reservations, order a ceviche (or something else, everything is good!) and ENJOY!

L’Auberge de Beaulieu: Tipps der Carla

Especially popular with local residents and visitors to the Collection de l’Art Brut, this bar-restaurant is a welcome new discovery. The large terrace offers shade in the summer in a peaceful setting, and the interior is cosy (although perhaps just a bit noisy). Perfect for eating/enjoying a drink after a visit to the art museum!

Pasta e Sfizi: Tipps der Sabine

I return there time and time again just for their quite exceptional mafalde alla “carbonara” di pistacchio. But diners find it almost impossible to choose between the pasta specialities, each one more original than the other and which leave the usual “spag bols” or spaghetti carbonara far behind.

K. Pultau: Tipps der Pauline

If, like me, you adore indulgent breakfasts, don’t hesitate to make a bee-line for Saint Sulpice - this pâtisserie sells pains au chocolat oozing with butter but crisp at the same time. Their cakes are original, full of flavour and with an unbeatable price. I can’t resist their caramel millefeuille pastries flavoured with peanuts.

Brasserie de Montbenon: Tipps der Camille

Housed in a superbly renovated historic hall, this brasserie highlights the canton of Vaud by relying on suppliers from the region. In the summer, the terrace becomes a popular place to dine or sip on a drink with a stunning view of the lake.

Les Arches: Tipps der Pierre

Right in the centre of the Place de l’Europe and nestling under the ancient stonework of the Grand-Pont alongside a slight slope which you can gently coast down to arrive at “Les Arches” terrace, a different sort of place and always a hit for enjoying an apéritif with friends, a snack or a mojito while taking in the sun (or sheltering from the rain!).

Kiosque Saint-François: Tipps der Manon

When I get off the bus at Saint-François, I just can’t walk by without stopping. This former tramway shelter has retained its charm from the 1910s with its glass awning, its marquetry, the small fountain leaning against it and its Art Nouveau aura. Savouring a good coffee in a beautiful café, what could be better?

Coffee Page: Tipps der Manon

A warning to lovers of both art books and coffee: someone has brought them together at last! I’ll browse a volume from the bookcase that favours richly illustrated books, order a drink and for once, leave my phone aside. My ideal combo: a chai latte and a book on Bauhaus.

Maison Buet: Tipps der Pauline

One of my favourite pastries and chocolate shops in the heart of Lausanne. It’s impossible to resist their buttery and so crispy “Galette des rois”. Not to mention their chocolate Easter creations that are as beautiful as they are delicious, and always highly original!

Café Mozart: Tipps der Clarence

I love the feeling of being in the middle of town but with views of the Alps and the lake. Its location by the music conservatory of Lausanne and just up the road from the Opéra of Lausanne makes it a great stopover before enjoying some music.

Slice Pizza is a cozy neighborhood pizza place, somewhere you always get a friendly welcome and a delicious pizza. One of my favourite things to order is the Abeille – who knew the combination of spicy salami and honey could be so tasty?!

Nostalgic of my trip to New York, I feel I’m back there when I savour one of the many bagels they offer. Good street food just the way I love it with fresh and local ingredients. A shoutout for their homemade iced tea that is excellent.

If, like me, you love Moroccan cuisine but don’t know how to cook it, this restaurant located just opposite the CHUV is well worth the detour. The royal couscous and their tajines are incredible, the flavours will transport you and, as the servings are very generous, I can guarantee you’ll walk away feeling full.

Whatever the season, L’Esquisse is a place where I love to go, whether for a coffee with friends before visiting a new exhibition at the Fondation de l’Hermitage or for a romantic evening… The menu varies according to the season and I still remember the venison I ate one autumn evening! In summer, I’m attracted by the view of the sunset over Lausanne from the terrace, as well as the delicious meal – a lighter one – with a glass of wine! The cocktail buffet during an event that took place there enchanted the whole family with its mini-burgers! The only thing I have yet to experience is the brunch!

Located in one of the Flon garages, Mosto is the benchmark for natural wines, both Swiss and foreign. And if, like me, you know nothing about these wines, they’ll be delighted to advise you.

Librairie Gastéréa: Tipps der Sabine

In this small, utterly charming bookshop in the Cité, you’ll find all the ancient and modern books on gastronomy. It’s a delight for the eyes that will also awaken your taste buds!

Osio: Tipps der Pauline

If you fancy drinking tea and savouring a sweet indulgence, why not do something different and try this Japanese tea room? Their pastries are delicious and so cute! Their cheesecake shaped like an actual piece of cheese is light but so moreish and I love their savoury chicken curry bao buns!

La Folie Voltaire: Tipps der Alix

Certainly my favourite park in Lausanne. A haven of peace away from the urban hustle and bustle where I feel like I’m wandering inside a living painting. An enchanting, timeless spot that is bound to move you. When the days get warmer, I recommend treating yourself to a break in the alley of chestnut trees at the Folie Voltaire. It’s the most charming kiosk with a menu featuring simple yet delicious, seasonal dishes!

Street Cellar: Tipps der Doris

It’s the obvious choice for afterwork, where I feel so at home! They serve a selection of draught wines from the barrel and world street food made with local ingredients in case you feel peckish. All that on a background of good sound tracks ;)

The Lacustre: Tipps der Ratana

Perched atop the CGN building in Ouchy, The Lacustre is an essential stop. Feast your eyes on the lake view while enjoying your pizza (my favourite is the Scamorza) and sipping ginger ale. What more could you want? Children and grown-up alike will love playing table football. Special mention for the uber cute toilets. Remember it’s bar service only, but the atmosphere is just so chilled…

Café de Prélaz: Tipps der Valentine

With an interior décor straight from the most beautiful Pinterest account, the Café de Prélaz is the place where you can go at any time of the day. For a nice start in the morning with a coffee, at lunchtime for revisited brasserie dishes, for jazz events every Thursday or for a weekend brunch. I’m a fan of the wallpapered wall and its pretty yellow neon light.

Les Grandes Roches: Tipps der Valérie

With its colourful and mismatched tables and chairs and palm trees, a feeling of being on holiday permeates the area under the Pont Bessières. I love that pop-up bar for its friendly, arty and inspiring atmosphere at all times of the day.

Le Perchoir Rooftop-Bar: Tipps der Victor

In the heart of the magnificent Lausanne University campus, between the river and the green spaces, is a rather strange building: the Vortex. This circular building is a must see during any visit to Lausanne: designed as accommodation for UNIL and EPFL students, it is structured around a 2.8-kilometre spiral walkway that accesses all the student rooms. You can nevertheless reach the 8th floor by lift to get to one of the friendliest bars in Lausanne, Le Perchoir. A large terrace, sunset, view over the lake, food and especially quite low prices, and sometimes even concerts – what more could you ask for?

An excellent Thai restaurant that deserves to be known! As I live in the area, I regularly order takeaway. An address that is becoming better known thanks to word-of-mouth advertising. The chef and her team are extremely kind. The pad thai, prawn fritters and red curry chicken or duck are so delicious!

Royaume Melazic: Tipps der Doris

A truly magical realm that will add glitter to your life: cupcakes, biscuits, baking tools, gift ideas, workshops… It’s a compulsory stop for all foodies and all bakers, whether experienced or beginners.

In the heart of Lausanne, not far from the Place de la Palud, is nestled Madeleine. No, it’s not where my aunt Madeleine lives, but a bookshop café. On one side is the bookshop and on the other the café. The place is timeless. I suggest taking a seat at a table to sip an iced coffee and savour a madeleine (of course!). You’ll be lulled by the surrounding peacefulness created by the pastel touches of the decoration and the soft lounge music in the background.

On the edge of Milan Park, the Montriond is the ideal meeting point for a coffee, a mate or an IPA. Located in the area just under the train station, this former Lausanne kiosk is my ideal landing place where I feel at home, with the promise of a chilled and intergenerational atmosphere.

Close to Mon-Repos Park in Lausanne, do go there and taste their sandwiches. They’re perfect to take with you and savour al fresco! What makes them unique is the little twist of oriental combinations that often change in each sandwich. And don’t forget to taste the cardamom roll, it’s delicious!

Indian Zayeka: Tipps der Alix

For an explosion of Indian flavours, head to this small restaurant in the Lausanne region. Don’t judge it on its simple exterior, as the dishes served there are delicious. I recommend the unmissable lunchtime buffet during the week that offers excellent value for money. Don’t miss it!

Mangiobevo: Tipps der Doris

A small corner of Italy hidden in a Lausanne street, with quality ingredients and products. Proper Italian sandwiches await you every day of the year. At Christmas, you’ve simply got to try the Panettone and, at Easter, the Colomba.

Le Pointu: Tipps der Doris

For breakfast with a good cup of coffee, lunch with their “tranches”, afternoon tea with a lush cheesecake, apéro with cocktails and mocktails, as well as dinner with dishes to be shared (or not)… We could spend all day there!

Maison 66: Tipps der Ratana

Go to this restaurant run by a couple of cooking enthusiasts to savour lovingly prepared and tasty dishes. They serve homemade local cuisine with local products. The chef’s personal touches are the specialities from Ukraine, Belarus and Latvia. You’ll get a warm welcome and be made to feel quite at home!

Bar Tabac: Tipps der Valérie

An intimate and peaceful café that invites you to linger. Located at Rue Beau-Séjour, the Bar Tabac has retained all the charm of days gone by with its menu and its unusual décor. One of my favourite cafés to study or work!

Doki Doki: Tipps der Valérie

Do you love ramen? I recommend Doki Doki! With its variations, both vegetarian and traditional, this restaurant invites you on a journey with its ingredients – although they are very local. Fun fact, you’ll savour your noodles with a nice view over the Mon-Repos swimming pools.

Ajò Café: Tipps der Tommaso

Ajò Café is an absolute delight for lovers of focaccia and pizzas. Their creations are excellent, particularly the focaccia with mortadella and stracciatella – my favourite! The manager, who comes from Sardinia as I do, has succeeded in creating a place that has conquered my heart. A gastronomy experience not to be missed!

I spent two months in India and Indian cuisine is simply my favourite. Nandanam, Lausanne’s must-go Indian restaurant, is the place where I know I’ll savour a delicious meal every time. The dishes are generous and flavourful, and the staff extremely welcoming. What’s more, you can enjoy the terrace at the back that offers a superb view over Plateforme 10. As it’s often very busy, I recommend booking a table ahead.

Le Barbare, located next to the Escaliers du Marché, is a must-go café restaurant that I highly recommend. Every day, they publish the day’s specials on Instagram, with two delicious local and seasonal dishes to choose from. I love to take a seat on their terrace and savour a Marta luscious hot chocolate, an absolute essential for me!

A brand-new spot in Lausanne. It’s a pastry shop that offers you a large choice of gluten-free, lactose-free and low-sugar pastries. The recipes are unique and delicious. This place shouldn’t be missed when you’re strolling in the beautiful neighbourhood called “Sous Gare”.

This café is located in the heart of the neighbourhood and for good reasons: a friendly atmosphere as well as its refined cuisine that highlights authentic flavours, prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Don’t hesitate to go there, whether for brunch, lunch or dinner.

Inglewood: Tipps der Michaël

For the best burgers in town, head this way. No matter the address – Boulevard the Grancy (my favourite) or Rue Saint-Laurent – the concept is the same with quality, original hamburgers. The setting subtly combines a contemporary style with a touch of rustic elegance. Let yourself be tempted by the “Valaisan” and, if you’re not too full, treat yourself to a slice of their homemade cheesecake.

Located in the area below the train station, Umamido is a true delight for aficionados of ramen prepared with local products. This restaurant welcomes you in a bright room with an open kitchen, a main counter decorated with vintage mosaics and wood trimmings (a legacy of the former Café des Arcades) that give the place real character. One small tip: go there early as they don’t take bookings.

Café Dalat: Tipps der Vincent

Total change of scenery, both on the plate or in the atmosphere that prevails in that Vietnamese restaurant housed in the former funicular station. A summer night on the terrace, watching the Vallon neighbourhood come to life creates a different kind of atmosphere, and one so pleasant to experience in Lausanne.
